How good is the compatible toner (non-OEM)?
It’s so darn expensive to buy genuine toner (brother HL-2040). The refill kit and compatible toner are more abundantly found all over the internet. I don’t think I want to deal with the messy refill kit but would like to know more about the compatible toner. Are these just as good? Thanks.
Hey! I have that same printer at work and I never buy the “real thing”. The compatible toners work just as well. I have been buying them for about a year and have never had a problem.

Premium performance, durability, and an affordable price have fueled the popularity of the Dell 5110cn printer.
Owners of this popular printer model are beginning to discover a “not so popular” aspect of owning the printer. This is the fact that replacing the toner cartridges can be very expensive.
Four standard yield toner cartridges come packaged with the printer when it is purchased new. These cartridges are rated at 8,000 pages each for the color cartridges (CMY) and 10,000 pages for the Black cartridge. This printer is built to handle 95,000 pages per month, which has led many organizations to use this printer as their primary printer. These organizations soon realize that in order to fill this role, the toner cartridges need frequent replacement.
The cost to replace the cartridges in this printer can add up quickly. The standard yield OEM branded cartridges cost approximately $185 each for the Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow cartridges and approximately $60 each for the Black cartridge. That is over $600 to replace each of the colors.
High capacity toner cartridges offer a bit of cost savings when used with this printer. These cartridges offer page yield ratings of 12,000 pages each for the color toner (CMY) and 18,000 pages for the Black toner. The high capacity OEM branded Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow cartridges cost approximately $250 each and approximately $100 for the Black cartridge. That is approximately $850 to replace all of the colors. For example, a company that is using this printer to the full 90k page monthly printing capacity and using the high capacity cartridges could end up spending over $6,000 per month on toner!
Compatible toner cartridges for the Dell 5110CN printers are now available and offer a tremendous cost savings. The Dell 5110CN compatible toners can be found in both standard and high capacity versions, with the high capacity toners offering the best “bang for the buck”. These high capacity compatible cartridges can be purchased for around $70 each for all of the four colors: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black. That is a cost of $280 to replace all of the 5110cn cartridges, which is approximately 1/3 of the cost when compared to purchasing the OEM branded toner cartridges.
Conclusion
Owners of Dell 5110CN printers should consider the use of compatible toner cartridges as a way to reduce their overall cost of operation.
