How do I replace the bulb in a halogen pot light?

I feel so silly for asking this but it’s a new house and I’ve never had to do this before. We have halogen pot lights all down our hallway and several of the bulbs have gone. There is an outer ring that sits flat to the ceiling and doesn’t seem inclined to budge. Then there is an inner ring that pivots and finally the bulb which is flush to the inter ring.

don,t hold me to it, but you need to push in litely an twist Counter clock wise. An it should pop up. sorry couldn,t help more. good luck.

Halogen Light

Halogen recessed lighting is a great way to lighten up dark corners in your home or office, and add a stunning highlight or accent a room. Installing them can be quite tricky and challenging, especially if you don’t have access from above a ceiling, such as an attic, but it’s not impossible. Installing halogen recessed lighting is actually a simple do it yourself home project.

Tools and materials:

• Halogen recessed lighting fixture

• 14/3 electrical wire

• Drill

• Dry wall saw

• Pliers (for stripping wire)

• Stud finder or wire coat hanger

• Wire nuts

Step 1: Decide where you want to place your halogen recessed lighting.

Step 2: If you don’t have access from above the ceiling, you will need to use the stud finder to establish the location of ceiling joists and how they run within the ceiling. However, if have access from above, there’s no need to go through the stud-finding process because you will be able to immediately determine the location and direction of the joists.

Step 3: Drill a small hole in the ceiling, where you will the need to insert the straightened wire coat hanger. It should be in 4 inches, bent at 90 degrees. Spin the wire coat hanger 360 degrees around; this will help you determine if there are any obstructions in the hole. Repeat this process in all your desired locations for your halogen recessed lighting. If you find an obstruction, simply change your layout.

Step 4: Find a power source for the halogen recessed lighting; a nearby chandelier or other light fixture can be used. Position the fixtures between joists where their wires are already running.

Step 5: If you need to place the wires across the joists, first make a hole beneath the joists in the ceiling, cutting a hole through the joist so as to allow the wire to run through. Then patch up the ceiling.

Step 6: Shut down the power from the main panel before continuing any work on the wires.

Step 7: If the halogen recessed lighting fixture came with a template, use this to draw an outline of the fixture for every location.

Step 8: Use the drywall saw to carefully cut around the outline. Avoid making it too large because you will not be able to attach the fixture if so.

Step 9: Attach the wire to the holes from the power source. Get Strip 1 wire, clamp about 8 inches of each end of the wire from the junction box. Fasten them using wire nuts to the wires in the junction box, but remember to stick to the same colors when attaching (black to black, copper to copper, etc.)

Step 10: Go back to the location of the halogen recessed lighting fixture. Carefully pull out the wire, allowing it to pass through the junction box, clamp them and strip wire ends. Use the wire nuts to attach the lighting’s wires to your home or office wires.

Step 11: Keep the remaining wire lengths into the junction box, and slowly move the fixture upwards to the ceiling. Manufacturers usually include clips to help you attach the fixture on the ceiling.

Step 12: Repeat the process for wire and fixture installation until you are done. Lastly, install the light bulb.

That’s all you have to do, and you can now have lovely halogen recessed lighting.
